Washed wool

The raw wool is called greasy wool; Wool washing is the second step after sheering the fleece from sheep. To remove greasy matter, contaminations, dried sweat (suint) and to prepare the wool for subsequent processes.

The process sequence is

  • Sheering
  • Sorting and grading
  • Washing/ cleaning /Scouring with water, soap or mild alkalies
  • Carding
  • Spinning
  • Weaving/ Knitting
  • Finishing

After finishing and preparing the article, woolens may be washed again before delivering to the end user for better dimensional stability( in pre-shrunk stage) Those garments are called washed garments.
